Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), a leading company in the integrated system of coordinating planning, purchasing and supplying of water and electricity across the UAE, announced today that it has successfully completed the transfer of the Load Despatch Centre (LDC) function from the Abu Dhabi Transmission & Despatch Company (TRANSCO).

The transfer of the LDC function to EWEC significantly expands its remit for coordinating water and electricity production operations in Abu Dhabi and beyond.

Desalination plant at Manora to be ready in July, Murad told – Pakistan

Sindh CM Syed Murad Ali Shah on Friday directed the public health engineering (PHE) department to complete 151 ongoing water supply and sanitation schemes launched for Rs11.428 billion so that people of different villages could benefit from them.

“The PHE department has a portfolio of 301 schemes worth Rs15.5bn, of them 151 are ongoing. Therefore, they must be completed by the end of current financial year,” he said while presiding over a meeting to review progress of development schemes here at CM House.

Filinvest provides free potable water to Typhoon Odette victims in Cebu – Philippines

Filinvest Land, through its Pusong Filinvest disaster relief program, distributed free potable water to families affected by TY Odette in Cebu.

The distribution was done in coordination with the local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management offices of Lapu Lapu City, Talisay City, and Cebu City.

The heavy rainfall and strong winds carried by Typhoon Odette brought severe devastation to Cebu cutting off access to water and power.

State drops water desalination project in Coast due to high cost – Bangladesh

A plan to set up a large-scale water desalination plant in Indian Ocean has been shelved because it is costly.

Coast Water Works Development Agency (CWWDA) said it had abandoned the project and was exploring other ways to address the perennial water crisis affecting the six counties.

CWWDA said it supplies about 180,000 cubic metres of water to Coast region’s population of 4.329 million people against the demand of 329,306 cubic metres.

Utico’s SWRO desalination plant on course for timely completion – United Arab Emirates

Utico stated that the record breaking world’s lowest water tariff project, the Hassyan Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO), is on course for a timely completion.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is the project shareholder along with Utico and 100% offtaker of the water from the largest Independent Water Project (IWP) in Dubai.

Saudi Arabia issues RFQ for key water pipeline project – Saudi Arabia

SWPC has issued request for qualifications (RFQs) for the development of the 603-km-long Jubail-Buraidah Independent Water Transmission Pipelines Project with a transmission capacity of 650,000 cu m per day.

The Jubail-Buraidah Independent Water Transmission Pipelines Project will be implemented on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model, said a statement from SWPC.

A total of 32 companies have expressed their interests in the project including 14 Saudi firms, said a statement from SWPC.

Acwa announces financial close of $1.3bn Red Sea debt facilities – Saudi Arabia

Saudi-based International Company for Water and Power Projects (Acwa Power) has announced the dry financial close for the $1.33 billion senior debt facilities for the Red Sea Multi-Utilities Project.

The project is a joint venture between Acwa Power, Spic Huanghe Hydropower Development Company and Saudi Tabreed District Cooling Company, with Acwa Power holding a 50% equity stake.

The scope of work includes the construction, management and operations of power, desalination, waste-water treatment, solid waste processing, district cooling plants and communication infrastructure for the Red Sea Project.
