Saudi Arabia has announced the launch of 26 water, environmental and agricultural projects in the Tabuk region of the kingdom at a total cost of more than $667 million.
These projects, which include four desalination projects worth SR1 billion, and 5 projects for water transmission systems valued at SR1 billion.
In addition the governor also opened seven projects for developing water resources at a cost of SR100 million.
Construction work has commenced on the Jubail 3B IWP desalination plant that will be located 65km north of Dammam airport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
This followed a ground-breaking ceremony conducted by global energy company ENGIE.
Commissioned by SWPC, the Jubail 3B plant will produce 570,000 m3/day of potable water using RO technology.
China has started construction of its first nuclear-powered steam supply project for industrial purpose to utilize heat generated by the nuclear power to convert desalinated sea water into clean, stable and efficient industrial steam and reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.
According to CNNC, its Tianwan nuclear-powered project with a total investment of $108.4 million and construction period of 24 months, will be fully operational by the end of 2023.
New desalination plants, power stations, and pumping stations will also be built under the project.
Chennai MWSSB has begun work to lay pipelines to draw seawater and discharge brine from the upcoming third desalination plant at Nemmeli. The plant will have a capacity to treat 150 million litres of seawater a day (mld).
Over 50% of the construction of seawater intake sump, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, and dissolved air flotation, in the plant has been completed so far.
The CMWSSB has laid cofferdams (a structure that enables work to lay pipelines for the desalination plant).
Saudi Arabia has agreed to provide a one-billion-dollar investment guarantee to the federal government, which will be used to build a desalination plant in Karachi to address the city’s water supply problems.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made the announcement at CM House, where he was invited by the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Friday to discuss “key issues of the economy” and “suggest measures to meet the current challenges,” which have crippled the country’s financial system and put the newly-formed coalition government at a crossroads.
