ACCIONA starts operation and maintenance of Shuqaiq 3 desalination plant in Saudi Arabia

ACCIONA has started the operation and maintenance of SWPC Shuqaiq 3 desalination plant, one of the largest in Saudi Arabia serving two million people.

The O&M contract has been awarded for 25 years. The IWP uses SWRO technology, which is more energy efficient than conventional thermal desalination.

Shuqaiq 3 is a key project in the modernization of the water sector that is being carried out by the SWPC.

Construction begins on Jubail 3B Independent Water Project (IWP) plant by Acciona – Saudi Arabia

Together with its partner SEPCO III, ACCIONA has started the construction of the Jubail 3B IWP.

Its capacity of 570,000 cubic meter per day will supply 2 million people in the cities of Riyadh and Qassim once commercially operational in 2024.

ACCIONA and its partner are the main EPC contractors in the project, which will be developed and financed by a consortium consisting of ENGIE, NESMA and AJLAN for the publicly-owned SWPC.

Rs600m allocated for desalination plant in Gwadar

The federal government has allocated Rs600 million under its PSDP 2022-23 for setting up a desalination plant in Gwadar to fulfill the fresh water requirements of the port city.

The desalination plant in Gwadar would desalinate 5 million gallons of sea water daily to cater the needs of the port city.

The total cost of the project is estimated at around Rs3397.858 million out of which Rs1,110 million.

Dubai to build new reservoirs for desalinated water – United Arab Emirates

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority announced today that it plans to construct three new reservoirs to increase the emirate’s water security.

The reservoirs will cost around $150 million and store desalinated water, the official Emirates News Agency reported.

Water desalination is the process by which salt is removed from ocean water to create fresh water that can be treated further and be safely used for drinking.

Water companies bet on hydrogen to beat climate change – Saudi Arabia

The Saudi water sector is moving towards increasing its hydrogen production as companies try to find creative ways to tackle climate change.

“We are the main producers of water, which is the main source of hydrogen,” said Carlos Cosin.

Cosin made these remarks during an interview with Arab News at a conference for the desalination sector in Jeddah last month.

Groundbreaking ceremony held for 5,000-ton/day Gwadar Seawater Desalination Plant – Pakistan

The project will provide 5,000 tons of fresh water per day to Gwadar residents and enterprises, greatly mitigating water shortage.

In his speech, PM thanked China for its assistance and the hard work of Chinese builders.
