QLD government pushing to build a second desalination plant – Australia

With around six million people expected to call the South-East home by 2046, the government has released the latest plan to shore up the region’s water security. It includes building a second desalination plant by 2035, but the location and cost are yet to be determined.

“This involved a process called ‘potholing’ where our crews drill a specific depth into the ground to assess soil condition and quality, as well as confirm where other existing underground services like electricity and telecommunications are located, to safely plan the installation of our water pipeline,” Mr Henchliffe said.

New desalination plant provides clean water for outback SA town – Australia

Residents in a remote South Australian town can now access drinking water from their taps, following the construction of a new desalination plant delivered by SA Water. 

The new small-scale reverse osmosis plant, stationed on Kurka Drive, can produce up to 210,000L of safe and clean drinking water each day for residents. 

SA Water General Manager for Sustainable Infrastructure, Amanda Lewry, said that the new desalination plant marks an important milestone for the outback town.

Milestone for SA Water’s Kangaroo Island desalination plant – Australia

Construction is progressing on Penneshaw’s new seawater desalination plant, with work now underway to install the next 20km of a large underground pipeline on Kangaroo Island.

This section of water main forms part of a total 50km being laid, which will deliver safe, clean water to new and existing SA Water customers from the new desalination facility once operational from mid-2024.

State owned water utility to build new wind farm to provide power for desalination – Australia

Western Australia’s state-owned water utility is set to build one of the state’s biggest wind projects, to date, after securing the development rights for the Flat Rocks Wind Farm Stage 2 from Moonies Hill Energy.

The 100MW project, which has the potential for a capacity upgrade to more than 150MW, will be used to green up the Water Corporation’s power supply, as one of the highest electricity consumers on Western Australia’s main grid.
