PM hails cooperation with Saudi ACWA Power in water desalination – Egypt

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli hailed existing cooperation with the Saudi ACWA Power in water desalination domains.

The premier welcomed the Saudi company’s interest in injecting investments in water desalination, especially as Egypt has an ambitious plan for increasing the amount of desalinated water to reach 6 million cubic meters per day in the next few years.

Madbouli’s comments came during his meeting on Tuesday 21/6/2022 with ACWA Power Chairman Mohammad Abunayyan, in the presence of the company’s regional director Hassan Amin and Egyptian Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker.

Egypt’s Prime Minister inspects Al-Alamein to follow up on projects

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly visited the new city of Al-Alamein in an inspection tour to follow up on the development work being carried out there, especially in terms of utilities.

During the tour, Madbouly listened to Minister of Housing Assem Al-Jazzar review the volume of investments in the new city and explain that these investments are divided into three main sectors.

The first of which is utilities, which includes seawater desalination plants, tertiary treatment, power transformers, a gas reduction station, as well as sewage lift stations, and various utility networks.

Sisi lauds Egyptian water conservation programs as Nile dam progresses – Egypt

At the first Africa Health ExCon, which kicked off in Cairo on June 5, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi recently stated that his country is not in conflict with other African countries over its share of the Nile water.

Sisi noted that his country’s historical share, an estimated 55 billion cubic meters, has been unchanged over the years.

Egypt expands water desalination projects as Nile dam talks hit new snag

The Egyptian government announced May 26 its decision to expand seawater desalination projects in the upcoming period by building 14 new plants. 

The project, according to the government, aims to raise the total water capacity of desalination plants in the country to about 1.4 million cubic meters per day.

This comes amid the faltering negotiations on the GERD, as Ethiopia is getting ready to implement the third filling phase of the dam’s reservoir.

PM follows up progress of housing ministry’s projects – Egypt

Egypt to establish 14 new desalination plants to increase production to 1.4 mln cubic metres per day – Egypt

Egypt has already established 82 desalination plants with a combined capacity of 917,000 cubic metres per day.

Rystad Energy analyses Egypt’s pipeline of green hydrogen projects worth $40bn – Egypt

COP27 host Egypt’s pipeline for green hydrogen projects stands at 11.62 gigawatts (GW), equivalent to over 1.57mn tonnes of green hydrogen, ranking the country in the top three green hydrogen pipelines globally, after Australia and on par with Mauritania, according to a new report by independent energy research and business intelligence company Rystad Energy.

The estimated cost for these hydrogen projects alone, without additional infrastructures, will be around $20bn.

The projects are expected to come online before 2035, according to Rystad Energy research.
