Largest water desalination plant opens in Oman.

Muscat – The largest water desalination plant was officially opened, pumping up to 281,000 cubic metres per day.

The Barka Desalination Company has announced the commercial launch of the Barka Independent Water Project (IWP).

A consortium made up of Itochu Corporation, ENGIE, SUEZ, and Towell Engineering, to finance, build and operate a new seawater desalination plant in Barka under a 20-year Water Purchase Agreement.

Cyclone Mekunu shuts Salalah seawater desalination plant.

Oman on Sunday advised all private sector establishments in Dhofar region to shut down for three days after Cyclone Mekunu hit the southern part of the Gulf Arab country, causing extensive damage that halted operations at Salalah port.

The labour ministry declared a three-day holiday for companies and establishments in the private sector, state news agency ONA reported on Sunday.

Tender floated for ‘technical advisory’ services for water desalination project in Wadi – Dayaqah – Muscat – Oman

Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) on Monday floated an initial tender seeking bids from consultancy firms for providing ‘technical advisory’ services for developing an Independent Water Project (IWP) in Wadi Dayqah (Qurayyat) near Muscat.

The desalination capacity of the project is yet to be determined. OPWP will issue the tender document between August 21 and 31, while the last date for submitting bids will be October 2, according to the tender floated by the state-owned OPWP. …

Tender floated for ‘technical advisory’ services for water desalination project in Wadi – Dayaqah – Muscat – Oman2017-08-21T16:43:26+02:00

Oman Power and Water Procurement (OPWP) is to appoint a consultant to provide legal advisory services for the competitive tendering of a coal-fired independent power plant (IWPP).

The tender documents will be provided in electronic format upon evidence of bank transfer or can be collected directly up to June 22. The last date for submission of the documents is July 24, according to a statement.

The proposal for a coal-fired project is part of a shift from use of natural gas for power generation as also for water desalination. In April, OPWP had issued its request for proposals from international consultants for providing financial and commercial advisory services for the development of the coal-based IPP.
