Hyflux suspends contract for desalination package in Iran – Iran

Water treatment firm Hyflux has suspended a contract for a plant in Iran – a move that is expected to have a material adverse effect on its financial performance.

The contract was signed in April between a Hyflux unit and Iran’s Asia Water Development Engineering Company (AWDEC) for a seawater reverse osmosis desalination package in Bandar Abbas.

Sadara, Veolia partner on Industrial Waste to Energy Facility in Saudi Arabia

Sadara Chemical Company (Sadara), a Joint Venture developed by Saudi Aramco & The Dow Chemical Company and Veolia Middle East SAS (“Veolia”), have signed an agreement for the construction and operation of a sustainable industrial waste to energy facility in PlasChem Park in Saudi Arabia.

PlasChem Park is a collaborative effort between Sadara and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu (RCJY) in Jubail Industrial City II.

Iran moving forward with plan to use Caspian Sea for solving water problem – Iran

Despite the long delay, Iran’s plan for water transfer from the Caspian Sea to Semnan province is finally getting closer to the fulfillment stage.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has recently announced that the government has solved the problems with water transport from north of the country to central cities in Semnan province and expressed government support for investors in this plan, Trend reports citing ISNA.

Oman’s Diam begins work on $390mln Buraimi water project – Oman

Diam, the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW), has started executing a project to carry water from the Sohar Desalination Plant to the Governorate of Al Dhahirah through a 222 km main pipeline at a cost of more than RO 150 million.

The project comprises nine concrete storage tanks with a total capacity of 451,000 cubic metres at Suhar, Mahdha and Dhank in addition to four pumping stations with a maximum capacity to pump 144,000 cubic metres of water per day in Suhar.

UAE inspires GCC nuclear future – United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is making progress on the construction of the first nuclear power plant in the GCC region.

In July, the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) announced that the first nuclear reactor would come online to start generating electric power in late 2019 or early 2020.

Construction of the UAE’s second nuclear power reactor is nearing completion with pre-operational testing well underway. Pre-operational testing process incorporates all lessons learned from the same test on Unit 1.
