Iran, China sign deal to construct desalination facility – Ilam – Iran

The Industrial Development & Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO Group) and China’s ZSM signed an agreement whereby the Chinese firm will set up a water treatment facility in Iran’s western province of Ilam.

The deal was signed on Thursday during a ceremony in Tehran attended by Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines and Business Mohammad Shariatmadari, IRIB news agency reported on October 18.

Six arrested in illegal well drilling case in west Amman – Amman – Jordan

Authorities arrested on Wednesday six people for allegedly drilling an illegal well in Wadi Al Sir district in west Amman, according to an official at the Ministry of Water and Irrigation.

The ministry received information from an area resident about suspected drilling of a well in Wadi Al Sir, according to the official, who noted that, after verifying the reports, a ministerial team escorted with a security force raided the location.

Department of Environment opposes water transfer from Persian Gulf – Tehran – Iran – Persian Gulf

With regard to the environmental conditions of the Persian Gulf, the Department of Environment (DOE) has taken a firm stand against water transfer from this body of water, deputy environment chief, Masoud Tajrishi, has said.

OOC, Gulf Energy Development Public Company to work on gas and water project in Duqm – Duqm – Oman

Oman Oil Company (OOC) has secured a partnership agreement with Gulf Energy Development Public Company to develop a gas-fired power and water project at the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Duqm.

The proposed Duqm independent water and power project (IWPP) will have a power generation capacity of 326MW and a desalination capacity of 8 million imperial gallons a day (MIGD).

The project will require a total investment of $483mn, reported MEED.

Basra governor wants oil firms to build water plants – Barsa – Iraq

The governor of the Iraq’s Basra province has said major oil companies must set up water desalination plants for residents if they want to continue operating there.

The oil-rich province last week saw a surge in illnesses blamed on a lack of safe drinking water, which residents and local politicians say is part of a breakdown in public services caused by corruption and years of neglect by the government in Baghdad.

Kuwait offers four desalination units to Iraq – Kuwait City- Kuwait

At the discretion of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the State of Kuwait on Monday sent four seawater desalination units to Iraq.

A technical team of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity and Water delivered the units to officials of the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources at the Kuwaiti-Iraqi border on Monday, the Kuwaiti ministry’s undersecretary Mohammad Bushehri said in a press statement.

The production capacity of the four seawater desalination units amounts to one million imperial gallons, he said.

Jordan, US sign $166m grant agreements to improve water network.-Jordan

Jordan and the US on Wednesday signed two grant agreements worth $166 million to rehabilitate Amman’s second main water resource and install smart metres to slash water loss.

Minister of Water and Irrigation Munir Oweis and USAID Mission Director in Jordan Nancy Eslick signed the two agreements, which aim at implementing the goals of Jordan’s 2016-2025 national water strategy that seeks to generate additional water amounts.

Reduce Jordan’s water loss from the current 43 per cent to 25 per cent by the year 2025.
