BMC Plans Upgrade For Colaba Sewage Treatment Plant After Desalination Fails To Attract Bidders – India

he BMC is shifting its focus to upgrading the Colaba Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Mumbai after its previous attempt to build a desalination plant failed to attract bidders. Currently, the treated water from this STP is used for non-potable purposes such as gardening, road cleaning, and vehicle washing.

However, BMC plans to enhance the plant’s capacity to 15 million liters per day (MLD) and convert it into an advanced tertiary plant. This upgrade will enable the plant to treat sewage water, making it safe for drinking.

Hydrates, also known as clathrates, are solid crystalline compounds resembling ice, composed of cages of hydrogen-bonded water molecules with small non-polar molecules, typically gas molecules, trapped inside. Spain Desalination Plant Could Grow by 50% – USA

State-owned water company Acuamed awarded this summer a $93.9-million contract to a JV of Sacyr Water, Sacyr Construction, Ferrovial water unit Cadagua and Ferrovial Construction to expand plant capacity to 120 cubic hectometers per year from its current 80 cu hm per year. The contract also covers four years of operation and maintenance by the JV.

SWCC has cancelled a $317 million mega seawater desalination plant with VA Tech Wabag – KSA

Saudi Arabia has cancelled a $317 million mega seawater desalination plant, VA Tech Wabag said in a regulatory filing on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

“The customer has notified all tender participants on 16 December 2024, that the said tender stands cancelled pursuant to their internal administrative procedures,” the company said.

A super-hygroscopic SA-MXene@LiCl composite membrane with fast ab/desorption kinetics for efficient sorption-based atmospheric water harvesting – China

Here, a thin, porous, mechanically stable and high LiCl-loading content super-hygroscopic SA-MXene@LiCl membrane (SM@LiCl) was fabricated via vacuum-assisted filtration and freeze-drying methods. The thin and porous characteristics of the cross-linked SA-MXene network significantly reduce moisture transport resistance, while the wrapped hygroscopic LiCl effectively enhances its moisture capture capacity.

When applied to SAWH, this nanocomposite membrane demonstrates an impressive water uptake performance of 1.69 g g−1 within 1 h at 45 % RH and releases over 65 % of absorbed water after only 0.5 h of sunlight irradiation (1 kW/m2).

The nanoparticles exhibited high specific surface areas of 498.49 and 538.17 m2/g for the Co-C and Co-P samples, respectively, contributing to an impressive adsorption capacity, with Co-P achieving 100 % Cr3+ removal within 30 min while Co-C achieved 99.6 % Cr3+ removal within 40 min.

These findings suggest that the green-synthesized cobalt ferrite nanoparticles, with their high surface area and mesoporosity, hold significant potential as effective agents for environmental remediation.
