More than 2 mln cubic meters of desalinated water for pilgrims – Riyadh – Saudi Arabia

Saudi National Water Company (NWC) has announced its readiness to provide pilgrims at the holy sites with the necessary amounts of desalinated water as part of its preparations to provide relief to worshipers.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the company did visual presentation on its readiness on the seventh day of Hajj this year, reviewing its operational capacity.

Swansea Water District approves solar agreement – Australia

Swansea Water District Superintendent Jeffrey Sutherland said the $60,000 is about 20 percent of the water district’s electricity costs which is “substantial.”

The Board of Water Commissioners voted last week to approve of a solar agreement that will save the district $60,000 a year in electricity costs.

City Opens Santa Barbara Desalination Plant to Public with Tours – Santa Barbara – USA

The plant, which was built in the 1990s and reactivated to start operating last year, converts seawater to potable water for city customers.

After a year of operation, Santa Barbara’s reactivated Charles E. Meyer Desalination Plant is being opened to the public for tours of the facility and city officials celebrated the plant during a brief event Wednesday.

A handful of elected officials and city staff visited the facility at 521 E. Yanonali St. to observe the process of turning seawater into potable water, and get-up close views of the plant’s technology.

MRPL’s desalination plant likely to be ready by 2020 – Mangalore – India

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), which is setting up a water desalination plant near New Mangalore Port in Mangaluru, is expecting it to be ready by 2020.

Speaking to presspersons here, M Venkatesh, Managing Director of the company, said that the desalination plant is under construction.

Initial stages of engineering and tendering activities are going on. He said that the project is on target as of now with mechanical completion by March 2020.

Kuwait offers four desalination units to Iraq – Kuwait City- Kuwait

At the discretion of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the State of Kuwait on Monday sent four seawater desalination units to Iraq.

A technical team of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity and Water delivered the units to officials of the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources at the Kuwaiti-Iraqi border on Monday, the Kuwaiti ministry’s undersecretary Mohammad Bushehri said in a press statement.

The production capacity of the four seawater desalination units amounts to one million imperial gallons, he said.

Drought-affected farmers in New South Wales have called for South Australia to increase the use of its desalination plant to enable an increase in water allocations for other users along the Murray River.

The farmers’ argument is that if Adelaide, in particular, draws less water from the river more will be available for agriculture in NSW and Victoria.

Dam levels take a dive as the big dry tightens its grip – Sydney – Australia

The Kurnell desalination plant which has sat idle for the past five years may need to be switched back on if Sydney’s dam levels continue to fall.

Water levels at storages supplying the Sydney metropolitan area are sinking amid a lack of rain and rising consumption.

The total storage levels for the Sydney region are running at about two-thirds full, with the desalination plant set to be turned on to supplement the water supply when capacity drops to 60 per cent, according to WaterNSW.

Jordan, US sign $166m grant agreements to improve water network.-Jordan

Jordan and the US on Wednesday signed two grant agreements worth $166 million to rehabilitate Amman’s second main water resource and install smart metres to slash water loss.

Minister of Water and Irrigation Munir Oweis and USAID Mission Director in Jordan Nancy Eslick signed the two agreements, which aim at implementing the goals of Jordan’s 2016-2025 national water strategy that seeks to generate additional water amounts.

Reduce Jordan’s water loss from the current 43 per cent to 25 per cent by the year 2025.
