Major power failure at Victoria’s desalination plant fixed

Aquasure had shipped in massive diesel generators as its contingency power supply, which would have been highly polluting and caused a large local backlash.

Water Minister Lisa Neville said Aquasure’s statement was good news.

“We were very clear we did not support the use of generators and it is welcome news they will not be needed,” she said.

“As we have always said, we expect Aquasure to deliver this water by June 30.” (LINK)

Sweet water for Meerensee area (South Africa)


THE desalination plant at Alkantstrand is already in production and by the time it is commissioned on 1 February, it will supply enough water to supply Meerensee, Mzingazi and Mbonambi.

Speaking at a drought crisis meeting in Richards Bay on Tuesday, Muneka Paradzai, Project Manager at the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) said the salt water to drinking water plant was already producing 3.5 megalitres (Ml), which would climb to 10Ml in full production.
