Mumbai: In 4 years, city to have 1st desalination plant which converts seawater to potable water – India

The plant is expected to be functional in the next four years and will process 200 million litres of water per day (MLD). Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) P Velrasu confirmed the development. 

Officials also said that the plant’s capacity could later be increased to 400MLD, if needed. The project is estimated to cost Rs1,600 crore and maintenance for the next 20 years will cost another Rs1,920 crore.

Israel Needs Six Times As Many Desalination Plants – Israel

Israel must build up to 30 more desalination plants – or face major water scarcity by 2065.

Researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem estimate it will need to desalinate at much as 3.7 billion cubic meters (m3) annually by 2065, compared to 0.5 billion m3 in 2020. One cubic meter is 1,000 liters of water.

Desalination plants capacity to be raised by 400,000 cubic meters – Tehran

Black & Veatch to deliver desalination plant for world’s largest single-line copper smelter – Indonesia

The seawater desalination plant will be located adjacent to the Manyar Smelter Project. It will produce over 1,400 m3/hr of desalinated seawater to support the copper smelter and precious metals refinery. Designed to process 1.7 million tonnes per year (MTPA) of copper concentrate, the $3 billion Manyar Smelter is anticipated to be the world’s largest designed single line copper processing facility.

Ecological desalination: a world first in Rodrigues , Mauritius

Once again, Rodrigues is setting an example in terms of ecology. On Saturday, June 22, the Hotel Les Cocotiers inaugurated a desalination station that runs solely on solar energy. It is the first hotel in the world to be supplied with drinking water in this way.

Saudi Aramco awards contract to develop $690m seawater desalination plant – Riyadh, KSA

The seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant includes a water distribution network, and is a part of the Jafurah gas development scheme. 

The project has a design capacity of 80,000 cubic meters a day, and includes power and utility facilities, according to a MEED report. 

It also contains an extensive water distribution network component, identified to extend 200 km.  

By 2023, the plant is expected to have a power capacity of 270-320 megawatts.

Desalination to Help Address Water Shortage – South Iran

“Currently, the water desalination facilities in the southern province produce 45,000 cubic meters of freshwater per day and when the new projects are completed, the figure will reach about 100,000 cubic meters per day by the end of the current Iranian year (March 2023),” Majid Aqazadeh was also quoted as saying by the Energy Ministry’s news portal.

BMC’s desalination plant project likely to begin this year – Mumbai, India

Mumbai at present gets its daily intake water from seven lakes. Their catchment areas are filled during monsoon, following which, water is being supplied across the city through pipelines. Though the city has a demand for 4,400  millions of litres per day (MLD) of water daily, BMC can only supply around 3,800 MLD — a shortfall of 500-600 MLD.
