National water agency the Public Utilities Board (PUB)has chosen Tuas Power–Singapore Technologies Marine Consortium as the preferred bidder to build Singapore’s fifth desalination plant, to be located on Jurong Island. Of the four applicants invited to submit their proposals for the plant, the consortium quoted the most competitive first-year price of S$0.91 per cubic metre, the agency said in a press release yesterday. SWCC hired BNP Paribas advising on sale of Ras Al Khair desalination plant – Saudi Arabia – Riyadh

DUBAI (Reuters) – Saudi Arabia’s Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) has hired BNP Paribas (BNPP.PA) to advise it on the sale of its $7.2 billion Ras Al Khair desalination plant, a source close to the matter said on Thursday. The desalination and power plant is one a number of state assets that the government is selling as part of a privatization drive to reduce pressure on its capital spending and to diversify government revenues away from oil. Huntington Beach desalination plant may get subsurface Intake – USA – California

Poseidon’s attempt to influence the State Lands Commission is too little, too late. Promising environmentally friendly methods in building a $1 billion desalination plant in Huntington Beach is not sufficient to overcome its past record of problems surrounding its Tampa Bay plant.

The California Coastal Commission has suggested and urged Poseidon to use a subsurface intake pipe so that the sand would act as a filter for marine life, such as small fish, fish larvae and eggs, which Poseidon has rejected because of the expense.

Seawater desalination complex – Azerbaijan – Salyan – Khidirli

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today familiarized himself with the activity of the seawater desalination complex in Khidirli village of Salyan district.

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Huseyngulu Baghirov informed the head of state about the complex. The seawater desalination complex was commissioned in 2013.

The second line was installed in the complex in 2016 without any additional construction work. Each line has a production capacity of 1000 cubic metres. President Ilham Aliyev also viewed sapling fields in territory….

Construction of seawater desalination plant to begin in 2018 – Tunisia – Sfax

…Next year, construction of the Grand Sfax desalination plant, in the Sfax governorate, will begin.

This was reported by Tunis Agence Presse (TAP) citing Samir Taieb, Tunisia’s minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fishery.

The plant will treat daily 200,000 m3 of seawater and be built over 20 hectares in the southern delegation of Sfax. The project is to cost overall 480 million dinars ($197 million) and will be financed with a loan secured from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). It should be delivered in 2020, according to Taieb.

The Public Authority for Electricity & Water (PAEW) has issued a tender for a pre-feasibility study into aquifer storage and recovery (ASR).

The organisation is inviting consultancies to bid to help evaluate the application of large-scale underground storage of water in ASR schemes. ASR enables utilities to store produced water in an aquifer when there is surplus but then recover the water when it is needed.
