Egypt to build desalination plant in Iraq

An Egyptian delegation of water treatment experts visited Iraq this month for talks with Iraqi officials on addressing an acute water crisis in the Arab country.

The Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources said June 20 that the Egyptian delegation discussed a proposal for building a water desalination plant on the Euphrates River.

The station will be used to purify and desalinate seawater to help ease water shortages in southern Iraq.

GS Inima on track for 2.4 trillion won seawater desalination project – Oman

GS Inima has kicked off a 2.4 trillion won seawater desalination project in Oman, the water treatment firm’s parent company GS E&C said Tuesday.

GS E&C said it signed contracts to raise a combined $130 million for the Barka 5 (IWP) project, ordered by Oman Power & Water Procurement Company.

The Korean firm plans to borrow 70 percent of the money from the Export-Import Bank of Korea and financial institutions in Oman.

A $1.86 billion seawater desalination project in Oman overseen by GS Engineering & Construction subsidiary GS Inima has kicked off, officials said Monday.

Ruptured part of Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road caves in – Chennai

A section of the 200 Feet Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road near Periya Eri caved in on Saturday due to a rupture in a desalination pipe going underneath the bridge.

Highways department officials said there was a rupture in the pipe underneath the radial road and it was fixed within a few hours.

“This caused only a very minor cave-in. We fixed it in a few hours once we got the news on Saturday,” an official said.

NEOM to build renewable-powered desalination plant – Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s futuristic planned city NEOM plans to build a water desalination plant powered by renewable energy.
