Acwa Power, a leading Saudi developer, investor, and operator of power generation, water desalination and green hydrogen plants worldwide, said it has added 2.4 million cu m/day of water desalination capacity across four reverse osmosis megaprojects in 2022, the largest in a calendar year in the company’s history.
The plant is expected to be functional in the next four years and will process 200 million litres of water per day (MLD)

The company’s technology uses a strong base to turn CO2 in the atmosphere into minerals. It differentiates itself from other carbon capture projects in its ability to use its technology in combination with other industrial processes such as water desalination plants, as opposed to standalone carbon capture plants like those used by Climeworks in Iceland.
Saudi-located ACWA Power established the biggest water desalination volume in the firm’s history last year, allowing it to supply 5.5 million additional people in the Gulf Cooperation Council area each day.
