WELLS in nearby villages have dried up allegedly due to the operation of a desalination plant that converts brackish water into potable water in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.

Ed Karlon Rama, Cebu City Bantay Dagat Commission executive director, said on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, that residents of Barangays Mambaling and Basak Pardo, through their respective barangay councils, reported to the Coastline Management Board (CMB) about cases of existing wells drying up.

Four new desalination units in the works to combat water shortage – Philippines

The Water Development Department has announced plans to address water supply issues in Limassol and Paphos, officials told a parliamentary committee on Tuesday.

The strategy includes four new mobile desalination units nearing final design stages, as well as two permanent units slated for Limassol and Larnaca. Existing facilities are also set for expansion to combat potential water cuts following recent years of drought.

The facility is nestled in a 3.5-hectare property in the barangays of Poblacion, Buagsong and Catarman in the Municipality of Cordova, Cebu.
