Water issue still rankles Dr M, but agreement is binding, say experts. Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s latest remarks on the water issue shows that the matter which was a source of conflict between Singapore and Malaysia during his first stint as Malaysia’s prime minister continues to be foremost on his mind, most experts who spoke to TODAY said. However, Bilahari Kausikan, Singapore’s former Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, said that the latest comments from the political veteran could be a “diversionary tactic” to make the Singapore government look unreasonable, in the hope that this will help Malaysia’s position should it ask for a waiver or reduction of the compensation owed to […] Water issue still rankles Dr M, but agreement is binding, say experts.DME GmbH2018-06-27T07:34:51+02:00

Nam keeps Bots waiting over desalination project. Windhoek – Namibia is yet to decide whether to include Botswana in the much-needed desalination project or to embark on the project on its own. The Southern Times is reliably informed that Botswana has been pushing for the two countries to start the process that would lead to the construction of a desalination plant at Walvis Bay. However, according to sources, Namibia has been dilly-dallying due to financial constraints currently gripping the economy. The project, which was first mooted in 2016, would draw water from the Atlantic Ocean at the coast of Namibia through the country’s capital, Windhoek, […] Nam keeps Bots waiting over desalination project.DME GmbH2018-06-25T23:07:04+02:00

OPINION: Renewable energy-based desalination could resolve India’s perennial water woes. The ever-increasing demand for potable water is exerting tremendous stress on our existing consumable water resources. Water covers a little over 70 per cent of the earths surface, and by this we erroneously presume that there is adequate potable water. Realistically, only 3 per cent of this water is potable. According to a study in Science Advances, some African and Asian countries face severe water scarcity for almost the entire year. The same study also reveals that India suffers from water scarcity for over seven months a year. (LINK).
