World Water Day

World Water Day, on 22 March every year, is about taking action to tackle the water crisis. Today, there are over 663 million people living without a safe water supply close to home, spending countless hours queuing or trekking to distant sources, and coping with the health impacts of using contaminated water.
The Sustainable Development Goals, launched in 2015, include a target to ensure everyone has access to safe water by 2030, making water a key issue in the fight to eradicate extreme poverty.

In 1993, the United Nations General Assembly officially designated March 22 as World Water Day. World Water Day is […]

Water from the Wonthaggi Desalination Plant has begun to enter the Cardinia Reservoir as part of a plan to deliver water security to Victoria.

Victorian Minister for Water, Lisa Neville, said that water customers will not face additional charges on their water bills for 2017’s 50GL water order or the subsequent three minimum water orders.

This will save customers $12 for 2017’s order on an annual average water bill. This will be done via efficiencies found within the water contract.

“We’ve learnt the lessons from the millennium drought and this secures our water supplies at a time when our reserves are decreasing,” Ms Neville said.

Electrochemical Detector for variety of water-borne contaminants

DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS IN YOUR WATER?
CHANCES ARE, YOU DON’T.

Water is essential to our lives, our industry, and our environment. It is our most precious resource.

Despite this, our ability to monitor the quality of our freshwater assets is lacking. The existing tools are expensive and complex, requiring on-site sample collection and processing. This costs time and money, meaning that in many industries sampling is often periodic, and contamination can be missed (LINK).

Algae bloom in Arabian Sea – Gulf of Oman turns green

Scientists who study the algae say the microscopic organisms are thriving in new conditions brought about by climate change, and displacing the zooplankton that underpin the local food chain, threatening the entire marine ecosystem.

Khalid al-Hashmi, a marine biologist at the Sultan Qaboos University in Oman, wrinkles his nose as the research vessel nears the bloom. „Sea stench,“ he says, referring to the algae’s ammonia secretions. „It’s here, you can smell it.“ (LINK)
