Membrane technology has played a vital role in wastewater treatment. Aerobic membrane bioreactors (MBRs) have been widely used in both municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, including petrochemical and refinery effluents, all over the world. New membrane bioreactor technologies, such as anaerobic MBRs, membrane photobioreactors, and membrane aerated biofilm reactors, have received much attention in recent years and significant progresses have been made in these areas. This /Special Issue/ will focus on original research papers and state-of-the-art literature review articles on recent advances in both fundamental studies and applications of various types of membrane bioreactor technologies, processes for wastewater treatment, MBR economics and other related technologies. Although a number of lab-scale, pilot-scale studies and full-scale applications of various types of membrane bioreactor technologies have been reported in the literature; there are a number of issues, such as membrane fouling, scale-up strategies, microbial community populations, optimization and economic issues of MBR processes and technologies, new applications, as well as limitations of MBRs that need to be further addressed.

We would like to call for submissions from both /Scientific communities/ and /Industrial sectors/ for original research papers, short communications, research/industrial notes, and state-of-the-art literature review articles on various aspects of recent progresses of MBR technologies.

To ensure that all manuscripts are correctly identified for inclusion into the special issue, it is important that you select the *SI: MBR technology* when you reach the “Article Type” step in the submission process.

Deadline for submission: *Oct. 28, 2017*.

We look forward to your contributions to this Special Issue.
