Kuwait likely to issue power and water desalination plant tender in Q4 – Kuwait

Kuwait Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) is expected to tender the design consultancy package for the first phase of the planned Nuwaiseeb power and water desalination plant in Ahmadi in the fourth quarter 2020, a source aware of the project details said.

“The design consultancy tender is expected to be released by October 2020 with the design completion is expected to be by first quarter 2021,” the source told Zawya Projects, adding that the project completion is scheduled for December 2024.

Acciona wins $500m desalination contract – Saudi Arabia

The contract for the plant – Acciona’s fourth in the country – was awarded by Saudi publicly-owned company Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC).

The Al Khobar 2 desalination plant will be built at Khobar, on the east coast of Saudi Arabia around 400 kilometres from Riyadh.

The facility will be equipped with reverse osmosis technology and will have a daily capacity of more than 600,000mÂł, making it one of the biggest in the country.

McComb: Passage for first loan for Desal Plant will result in ‘no increase’ to your water bill – Texas – United States

On August 25, Corpus Christi City Council members voted to accept a loan from the Texas Water Development Board to execute the next step in building a Seawater Desalination Plant.

Mayor Joe McComb announced via Facebook that this loan is not to build a plant and will result in no increase to your water bill.

Despite a heated debate during the City Council meeting, there were enough council members who voted (6-3) in favor of pursuing an $11.4 million loan from the Texas Water Development Board.

No more salt water for now, says Ugu – South Africa

In 2015, South Coasters turned on their taps to find salt water filling their glasses, sinks and bath tubs.

This was the case across the coast for some weeks until, at a cost of R6 million the salt water was cleared and the mouth of the Umzimkhulu River opened.

According to a report from Ugu at the time, R3.7 million of that was allocated for the construction of a temporary berm system as a desalination method to prevent sea water from entering the river.

The desalination plants worth a total of LE11 billion ($690mn) will have a total daily production is 550,000 cubic meters.

Egyptian Ministry to provide financial guarantee for water sector – Egypt

The Egyptian Ministry of Finance will offer EGP 3 billion worth of financial guarantee to state-owned Holding Company for Water and Wastewater, according to an official statement.

The guarantee will help fund desalination projects in Hammam area in Marsa Matrouh as well as Safaga, El Quseir, and Marsa Alam in the Red Sea.

Ambitious AR eyes Erongo Desalination Plant – Namibia

Activist group, Affirmative Repositioning Movement (AR) made a formal offer to buy the Erongo Desalination Plant from Orano Mining Namibia. The plant is estimated to be worth over N$3 billion.
