Books around desalination

Books and publications around desalination can be found all around the world. Today we can see more and more publication posted in chats and social media platforms as well. A lot of these documents are available online.

This page does give you the option to search and select publication due to the field of interest you are looking for. The way we structured the fields follows the way the water flows through a waterworks and desalination plant. We start with the intake, pre-treatment, core process, post-treatment, storage and transportation. Areas of specials interest are energy, mobile plants, and future desalination technology.

Since decades our market has been developing faster and faster every year. In order to keep up and stay up to date DME does provide books and folders covering all in one down to very specific subjects and special areas of interest. Following this link here you will find material introducing desalination up to full coverage of membrane and thermal desalination.

The intake solution has a very big influence on the rest of the desalination plant. Starting with open intakes for very big volumes and a very robust operation today beach wells are more and more in use for smaller and medium size plants depending on local soil conditions. Following this link here you will find material related to this subject.

Treatment of raw water for membrane processes is the most importuned thing to do. A pre-treatment does cover mostly everything to be take of the raw water coming from the intake bigger than 5 micron, any biology and specific components. For mostly and thermal process this part hardly does not appear. Following this link here you will find material related to this subject.

RO Plant

Today DME is tracking more than 50 desalination technologies globally. The main technologies in use are in number of installations and volume are Reverse Osmosis (RO), Multi-Stage Flash Evaporation (MSF) and Multiple-Effect Distillation (MED). Covering not only the core desalination process but also needed and additional components following this link here you will find much more material related to this subject.

Typically, post-treatment of product water includes one or more of the following processes such as disinfection, Water quality polishing for enhanced removal of specific compounds (i.e. H2S, boron, chlororganics, NDMA, etc.), re-mineralization and stabilization (corrosion control). The purpose of a proper post-treatment is base on technical needs of the network as well as on the customers’ needs. Following this link here you will find material related to this subject.

For a very long time the energy needed to desalinate water will be a main part of the overall price for a liter of water. The more efficient every Watt can be used the better will be the overall price for water. Therefore a lot of effort has been put into reduction of energy used as well as using alternative energy sources. In the end salt and water has to be separated and there is a natural minimum of energy required for this on one can overcome. For mostly and thermal process this part hardly does not appear.

Demand and distance often do not allow building pipelines or operating a truck transportation system to serve the water needed. Reducing costs and performing flexibility often does lead to a mobile desalination solution. Starting with emergency units for a personal use only, covering units of some thousands of liters up to desalination takers of a capacity of 50.000 mÂł/d coursing along the costs and delivering water where it is needed. Following this link here you will find material related to this subject.

Everybody is familiar with MSF, MED, RO, NF, UF. Some might have been in contact with MD and FO. But who knows how this works and who knows what comes next after MD and FO. DME has based on its knowhow of desalination technology gathered a again and again new and interesting technologies being presented by inventors, owners of patents and researchers showing where we will go in desalination in the future. As we all know new and good ideas in desalination are getting more and more needed. Therefore DME does provide written reports as well as online system to find the way. Following this link here you will find material related to this subject.

Future of RO Membranes-Latest Membrane devlopments by R&D and Manufacturers (engl..) (S-001-2018) 120,00 Euro + USt (7%)

Seminar „Future of RO Membranes – Latest Membrane developments by R&D and Manufacturers“

Membrane development is going very fast. New materials are developed, new composites are introduced, new concepts are published.

This Seminar will give the overview of what is coming next in RO Membrane development and sales to get the participants up to speed in one go.

Since the first RO plant has been erected the development of membranes has continuously proceeded further. The quality of membranes has been improved and the membrane technol-ogy diversified. Nowadays RO Membranes are pushed to the limits and new material and manufacturing developments opening and ab-sorbing old and new markets.

This Seminar gives a compact vendor’s over-view about the existing membranes for mem-brane plants and the different fields of applica-tion in Europe and the Arabian countries. Latest R&D developments will be presented.

Desalination Powered by Renewable Energy (engl.) (S-002-2018) 120,00 Euro + USt (7%)

Seminar „Desalination Powered by Renewable Energy“

Desalination powered by solar energy is the oldest method nature does practice at all. But their are a lot of other possi-bilities to desalinate water with renew-able energies.

In this Seminar state of the Art devel-opments in renewable powered Desalination will be demonstrated. Participants will have the chance to get an outlook into the existing and upcoming developments.

The seminar will illustrate large re-newable driven desalination plants as well as local and small island solutions.

Desalination Powered by Nuclear Energy (engl.) (S-003-2018) 120,00 Euro + USt (7%)

Seminar „Desalination Powered by Nuclear Energy“

This Seminar will highlight the global actual situ-ation reviewing all existing desalination plants driven by nuclear power, point out necessities to ensure all safety aspects, show the latest developments of both fields of interest applica-ble for best solutions. Desalination driven by nuclear power is an op-tion to separate salty water into fresh water and brine. Nuclear power can provide tempera-tures and heat in a reasonable range for thermal processes and electricity for membrane pro-cesses. So called either process integrated (thermal) and project integrated (electricity) co-generation plants.
Definition by IAEA 2007: Nuclear desalination is defined to be the production of potable water from seawater in a facility in which a nuclear reactor is used as the source of energy for the desalination process. Electrical and/or thermal energy may be used in the desalination process. The facility may be dedicated solely to the production of potable water, or may be used for the generation of electricity and production of potable water, in which case only a portion of the total energy output of the reactor is used for water production.

Desalination with small and mobile system (engl.) (S-005-2018) 120,00 Euro + USt (7%)

Seminar „Desalination with small and mobile systems“

Having water on time in place is a challenge. Building pipe lines is a limited option, depending on the distance water needs to be transported. Also having a plant not being operated due to sufficient rain fall looks like an investment not being in use.
All this gives mobile desalination plants an option to fill this gaps. And today a mobile desalination plant can be in a pocket of a trouser producing less than 1 litre in an hour’s time up to a desalination Tanker pro-viding 70.000 m³/d.
Small desalination plants are today the majority of all installations found all around the world. Looking into the compo-nents used they have to be very robust and repayable at a reasonable price.
