CARBONCO Signs an MOU With Saudi Arabia’s SWCC, the World’s Largest Seawater Desalination Institution, for the CCUS Project – Riyadh, KSA

CARBONCO and SWCC have agreed to cooperate on the adoption of CCUS technology, which captures carbon from power plants operated by SWCC and utilizes it in the seawater desalination post-treatment process. Both parties plan to collaborate across the CCUS business development, including commercial CCUS plant construction, based on business feasibility analysis and basic design research for the application of CCUS technology. Furthermore, the two companies will carry out joint research on various CCUS projects which encompass biological and chemical conversion, mineralization, and storage of carbon that are feasible in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Aramco awards contract to develop $690m seawater desalination plant – Riyadh, KSA

The seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant includes a water distribution network, and is a part of the Jafurah gas development scheme. 

The project has a design capacity of 80,000 cubic meters a day, and includes power and utility facilities, according to a MEED report. 

It also contains an extensive water distribution network component, identified to extend 200 km.  

By 2023, the plant is expected to have a power capacity of 270-320 megawatts.

Abengoa starts producing drinking water at Jazlah desalination plant (Jubail 3A) – Saudi Arabia

The plant has started producing drinking water at 25 % of its capacity and is successfully meeting the quality parameters specified in the contract.

It will have a total capacity of 600,000 m3/day, the same as Rabigh 3, the largest desalination plant in commercial operation using reverse osmosis technology in Saudi Arabia, also developed by Abengoa.

It will also be the world’s largest desalination plant to be partially powered by solar photovoltaic renewable energy.

SWPC invites EOIs for Jubail 4 & 6 Independent Water Project – KSA

Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) has invited expressions of interest (EOIs) from leading developers to finance, build, operate, and maintain a key seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination water project near Jubail Industrial City.

The plant will have a total capacity of 600,00cu/m potable water per day. The power supply to the project will be provided from Saudi Electricity Company’s high-voltage network, SWPC added. 9 January 2023 has been set as the deadline for submitting the bids, the utility developer stated.

NWC to start work on $1.1bln Saudi desalination projects – Riyadh, KSA

The project scope includes implementation of more than 316 km of conveyor and main lines, and the construction of operational reservoirs with a capacity of 1.5 million cu m in addition to projects to improve water networks.

The project, which is due for completion in 2025, will be beneficial to more than four million of the kingdom’s residents, he added.

Worley lands Saudi’s Neom seawater desalination project deal – KSA

Under this agreement, Worley will provide services for the development of water treatment facilities as well as storage and distribution including seawater desalination, brine processing, pilot scale, testing, utility, offsite and storage facilities.

The facilities will be powered by low carbon electricity. The sea water desalination facility is expected to supply up to 2 million cubic meters of desalinated water per day once operational.

According to Neom, Enowa is planning to create a sustainable supply and distribution of water and energy throughout the key integrated development.
