BMC revives desalination plant plan to meet Mumbai’s water needs – India

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to revive its plan to set up a desalination plant to turn seawater into potable water through reverse osmosis, in an effort to tackle the water crisis plaguing Mumbai due to uneven rainfall.

BMC is in talks with an Israel-based company and, as per preliminary reports, the civic body is considering an area near the sea in Malad for the plant.

The plant will have a capacity of 200 million litres daily (MLD), requiring about 25 acres.

L&T sees growth in desalination projects – India

L&T’s water and effluent treatment business is eyeing a slew of desalination and water treatment projects worth $1 billion in the country.

The business, which is undertaken by L&T Construction in partnership with UAE-based Tecton Engineering and Construction, is seeing significant demand mostly from coastal regions.

Thane to get desalination plant, use water from creek – Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s (MMR)




To tackle the water crisis in Thane, the municipal corporation is gearing up to launch Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s (MMR) first creek water desalination pilot project, which will convert 20 million litres of brackish creek water into potable drinking water on a daily basis.

The working order of the project has been sanctioned by the corporation and it will also lay down pipelines to the drought pockets of Diva and parts of Kalwa.
