Parliament to vote in plenary session on three laws related to nuclear activities – Cairo – Egypt

The amendments are necessary before Egypt and Russia lay the foundation of the first nuclear power station at El-Dabaa

.

El-Wakeel explained that the aforementioned authority will be affiliated with the Ministry of Electricity and will be mainly tasked with proposing the construction of nuclear power stations for the purpose of electricity generation in Egypt as well as establishing desalination projects. “This authority will also take charge of conducting studies and research on nuclear stations in Egypt, and drafting the specifications of these stations,” said El-Wakeel, adding: “The amendments will also pave the way for the authority to [

Nuclear Desalination – IAEA

Desalination Thermodynamic Optimization Program (DE-TOP)

DE-TOP has been developed by the International Atomic Energy Agency as a tool for the thermodynamic analysis and optimization of nuclear cogeneration systems (currently with options for nuclear desalination and district heating applications). DE-TOP can be used to models the steam power cycle (Rankine cycle) of different water cooled reactors or fossil plants, and the coupling with any other non-electrical application. With an intuitive graphical user interface and flexible system configuration, the user can select different coupling arrangements between power plant and non-electric application (single steam extraction, multiple steam extraction, backpressure operation, etc.). DE-TOP [

Nuclear Power Plant permanent desalination plant? Koeberg – South Africa

Plans are underway to build a dozen desalination plants the majority will be temporary with the first ones expected to come online in February.

CAPE TOWN –

Australia’s multi-billion-dollar desalination plant in Perth cost its residents the equivalent of a cup of coffee per week. As western Australia experienced a serious drought, a desalination plant was commissioned and came online a decade ago. Back home, the City of Cape Town is hoping to pump an extra 300 million liters of desalinated water into the supply system. Plans are underway to build a dozen desalination plants, the majority [

KACARE corporation with Rosatom for nucleare desalination programm – Saudi Arabia – KSA

Russia state nuclear corporation, Rosatom, has agreed a programme for nuclear cooperation with Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy. The programme provides for collaboration in several key areas, including work small and medium reactors for power generation and water desalination, and human resources development for Saudi Arabia’s nuclear programme. Russia and Saudi Arabia will also consider the advantages of construction of a Nuclear Science and Technology Centre based on the Russian-design research reactor in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Rosatom said. The agreement was signed 5 October in Moscow, during a visit of the King [

Desalination the way to go in water-scarce South Africa

“Desalination is a critical component. It is probably more important than nuclear. Everyone is talking about nuclear but, frankly, that is a secondary issue,” Turton told the yearly conference of the Southern African Asset Management Association, Saama.

He argued that desalination technologies should be used in cities like Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, East London and Richards Bay, also suggesting that this could cascade into recycling sewage, which he considers a game changer.

“If we can recycle our sewage we can recover five-billion litres of water a day. If you take 100 ℓ of sewage effluent that each [

Nuclear power station to reduce water consumption and desalinate groundwater (South Africa)

In response to this, Eskom has decided to install a groundwater desalination plant at Koeberg nuclear power station. This process entails removing salts and other contaminants from groundwater to make it suitable for human consumption. In this instance, groundwater from the aquarium located near to the power station will be desalinated for use at Koeberg nuclear power station for its daily needs.

The objective of this project is to reduce Koeberg’s dependency on, and consumption of municipal water supplied by the City of Cape Town. This effort contributes to the city’s goal, which is to reduce water [
