16 new desalination plants – capacity of 473,000 mÂł – Egypt

Moustafa Madbouly, the Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, said that the implementation of 16 water desalination stations is taking place. The stations’ capacity is estimated at 473,000 cubic metres per day and will be built in five governorates. Madbouly said that the stations aim to serve the new communities and coastal cities underway, including New Alamein and East Port Said.

Madbouly explained that the governorates where desalination will be taking place include Matruh, North and South Sinai, the Red Sea, and Port Said. He emphasised that the expansion in desalination stations is a result of [

Libyan Iron and Steel Company sent operational materials to the desalination plant in Tobruk

The company reported that it had equally shared its operational materials with the Tobruk desalination plant and sent the due quantities to Tobruk. The Tobruk plant has exhausted its operational materials and was on the cusp of shutting down completely, which would cause a humanitarian disaster in the eastern Libyan city.

Gold Coast Tugun Desalination Plant increases production – Australia

The Mudgeeraba water treatment plant has been temporarily shut down for critical infrastructure maintenance. Seqwater Acting Chief Executive Officer Jim Prus, said, “This is about being smart about how we use our water grid assets in the most effective and efficient way possible.

“The desalination plant is the best option available to ensure the ongoing supply of a safe and reliable water supply while maintenance is conducted at the Mudgeeraba plant.” The Gold Coast Desalination Plant (GCDP) will produce up to 60 million litres of drinking water per day to supply more than 170,000 residents on [

Tender to produce extra 500Ml of water for Cape Town – South Africa

“Our intent is to both drive down collective usage to 500Ml per day and to ensure that there is always at 500Ml/day of water in production,” Mayor Patricia de Lille told reporters on Thursday. She said the city had decided to take the most pessimistic view of the drought, and hoped to have the first desalination plant on line by the end of October. The city had reduced water consumption from around 1000Ml a day in the past year to the latest figure of 610Ml a day. This was still too much, given the poor prospects of [

Tender floated for ‘technical advisory’ services for water desalination project in Wadi – Dayaqah – Muscat – Oman

Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) on Monday floated an initial tender seeking bids from consultancy firms for providing ‘technical advisory’ services for developing an Independent Water Project (IWP) in Wadi Dayqah (Qurayyat) near Muscat.

The desalination capacity of the project is yet to be determined. OPWP will issue the tender document between August 21 and 31, while the last date for submitting bids will be October 2, according to the tender floated by the state-owned OPWP.

Morocco will build a seawater desalination plant in the Casablanca-Settat region

The feasibility study and the institutional set-up of the project are currently being finalised, Charafate Afailal, secretary of state for water, was quoted as saying in a Morocco World News report. “With increasing demand and insufficient local resources, the only recourse to reduce the deficit in industrial or agricultural drinking water is desalination of seawater,” he said.

The studies carried out to date show that the average volumes of water that could be desalinated by 2030 to ensure the supply of drinking water are estimated at almost 425 million cu m, the report said. The construction [

Graphene Membrane Withstands Ultrahigh Pressure, Shows Desalination Potential

Rohit Karnik, an associate professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Department of Engineering, said the discovery could open graphene to a number of new applications, including desalination, where filtration membranes that can withstand high-pressure flows  can more efficiently remove salt from seawater.

“This is a fundamental study at this point, and what it shows is the possibility that one can design graphene membranes that can withstand high pressures,” Karnik said during an exclusive interview with R&D Magazine. . “This in itself doesn’t immediately lead to any application but it is basically a demonstration that you can design [

Desalination technology basics

Giving the foundation to a building will form its size in footprint and height. Knowing the basics in desalination will show the limits and open opportunities. Reviewing the given technology basics structured on a scientific background from three different angles does lead into a more clear orientation. This section opens up three important basics:

  1. driving forces (in preperation),
  2. working principle and
  3. technology classifications.
