A labour strike at the Episkopi desalination plant was called off following a meeting between union representatives and Labour Minister Zeta Emilianidou. Discussions between workers, management and the Ministry to find an agreement between the conflicting parties were effective says the Labour Ministry in an announcement.

The union representatives met with Emilianidou on Wednesday afternoon, and went on to diffuse the strike actions announced at the desalination plant in Episkopi, Limassol’s main water source.

The desalination plant supplies 80% of the city’s water on any given day, however the government can channel water from other sources, such as dams for instance. There was no possibility of water cuts, confirmed a union representative.
