Egypt will announce four new seawater desalination plants in partnership with the private sector in January 2021, the Minister of Finance, Mohamed Maait, said.

A desalination plant will be established in Matrouh’s Hamam City with a capacity of 190,000 cubic metres per day and three other plants will be built in Safaga, El-Quseir, and Marsa Alam with capacities ranging between 20,000 and 40,000 cubic metres per day, Maait added in a statement on Thursday.

The country is planning to establish 19 seawater desalination plants between 2020 and 2025 to make the best use of water resources and achieve sustainable development, he pointed out.
