Cape May hopes state, federal grants will help fund a new desalination plant – New Jersey In a century-old building at the end of Canning House Lane, a reverse osmosis system has the capacity to treat more than 1,000 gallons of water a minute. It’s not enough. The solution could be a $35 million new facility. Much of the drinking water for Cape May and the surrounding communities must have its salt removed in a process called desalination.
